10/16/2012 00:00:00

Lancaster University is delighted to announce Nicola Owen will become its new Chief Administrative Officer from January 2013.

Nicola is currently Deputy Registrar of the University of Warwick whose current responsibilities include constitutional governance, integrating strategy, planning, process and policy development and strategic partnerships. As Deputy
Registrar Nicola was also the administrative lead, for campus affairs and student services, on Warwick’s strategic goal for the student experience.

Nicola has degrees in Politics and European Integration and Co-operation. She started her administrative career at the University of East Anglia progressing to Assistant Registrar. She moved to Warwick in 2001 progressively holding roles as Senior Assistant Registrar, Director of Operations and Planning, Director of Academic and Student Affairs, Academic Registrar and Deputy Registrar plus a short period as acting Registrar.

These roles mean that Nicola has had responsibility at some point for nearly all major service areas of the University.

Nicola said: “I’m really looking forward to the prospect of joining the community of distinguished staff, excellent students, and engaging with Lancaster’s national and international alumni and partners as the University approaches its 50th anniversary. The strong quality of Lancaster’s research and education means that the University is well placed to pursue and achieve its ambitions and I am delighted to have the opportunity to make a contribution to that process.”

Vice-Chancellor of Lancaster University Professor Mark E. Smith said he was delighted with Nicola’s appointment.

“She has demonstrated that she is a formidable and talented administrative colleague. She couples this with a genuine empathy with the mission of Lancaster University and a real eye for strategy. As higher education moves at ever more rapid pace and we refresh our strategy having such a person as the leader of our administration is really exciting.”
