06/29/2001 09:39:21

Bailrigg FM is delighted to announce that Nicola Jones has won the times Student Multimedia Journalist Award for her report on the effect of the foot and mouth crisis on rural tourism in Wales. Nicola has won £2,500 and a sponsored work placement at Sky News.

Nicola is a dedicated member of Bailrigg FM's news team and her distinctive voice has led her to become 'the voice of Bailrigg FM', featuring on adverts and jingles. Studying Marketing at Lancaster University, Nicola hopes that winning this prize will enable her to extend her hopes of breaking in to the tough media job market and fulfil her ambition of becoming a national media journalist.

The competition involved submitting a news report as it would appear on the sky.com news website - Nicola chose to write a report on the visit by David Blunkett to Lancaster University. The second round involved submitting a video report of a news issue that affected the local area.

The ceremony was held at The Café de Paris in London on 27th June.
