Workplace Basic Skills Network wins £¼ million Contract

The Workplace Basic Skills Network, based at CSET within the Education Research Department has successfully bid and won a contract from the London Development Agency (LDA) worth £¼ million.

The Network's new project will help increase the quality and quantity of workplace basic skills programmes in London by providing continual professional development and support opportunities for basic skills training providers wishing to deliver training in workplace settings. It will not only provide training courses but will also offer advice, guidance and consultancy. They will also deliver seminars, produce newsletters and networking opportunities that will ensure that good practice is shared between all training providers.

This contract has been offered as a result of 'Skills for Life', the Government's national adult literacy & numeracy strategy which has stressed the importance of dealing with adult language, literacy and numeracy training in the workplace.

Fiona Frank, Executive Director of the Network said 'We can make a real difference to peoples lives. That is why project is so exciting as it has the potential to reach those low-qualified workers locked into low-paid, part-time jobs, and workers with English Language training needs who don't currently access learning and training opportunities'.
