Lancaster University's student to staff ratios are the 5th lowest in the UK, according to a table published today in the Times Higher Education Supplement (THES).

Lancaster's ratio of 10 is well below the UK average of 16.8. Lancaster comes 5th out of 116 universities for student to staff ratios.

This result comes close to the publication of the Guardian League tables where Lancaster has improved its position from 33 to 21 and also to a recent student survey where 80% of students surveyed rated their Lancaster experience as excellent or good.

Professor Amanda Chetwynd, Pro Vice Chancellor for colleges and the student experience said: " Lancaster is well known for being an established research university so these figures are especially important as they reflect the student-centred approach at Lancaster.

"Lancaster students get the benefits of being taught by top rated researchers in a good learning environment."

The data was released by the University and College Union and based on data from the Higher Education Statistics Agency.
