Students Invited to Relaunched Careers Service (CEEC)
Students have been learning how to improve their employment prospects at the relaunch of the new Centre for Employability Enterprise and Careers (CEEC).
The glass-fronted office on Alexandra Square offers a more visible service right in the heart of campus.
The bespoke offices make it easier for students to walk in off the Square, while inside there are two new interview rooms for careers guidance and employer liaison.
The Director of CEEC Paul Blackmore said: “Quite simply our aim is to make students more informed about their career decisions so that they can improve their chances to realise their career ambitions and become more attractive to potential employers and opportunity providers.”
The official opening has been marked by a week long programme of events including a student coach trip to Barrow-in-Furness, where CEEC together with Furness Enterprise arranged a day of company visits.
The trip included visits to three graduate recruiters – the educational publisher CGP Books, engineering firm Tronic and BAE Systems. There was also a social event where students networked with 25 invited Furness employers and recent graduates living and working in the Furness area.
Mr Blackmore said CEEC now offers a wider range of services than ever before. The core services of career guidance, education and information are now supplemented by help with employability and enterprise skills and even a placement service for those wishing to gain classroom experience in schools.
CEEC now offers a Certificate in Enterprise and Commercial Awareness to enable students to develop the necessary skills. Career Developing Learning programmes are also available both within the curriculum and directly through CEEC.
Opening hours have been increased from 9am to 5pm (10am on Wednesdays) and the service is now open during the vacation.
