Pre-School Centre top of the class

Lancaster University pre-school centre has come top of the class following a Government inspection.

A new Ofsted report into the quality of care at the centre concluded that staff were doing a great job in providing good quality care for children, involving parents and training staff.

The report said: “Lancaster University Pre-School Centre provides good quality care for children. The nursery is managed by an experienced qualified manager. There are effective procedures in place for deputising and all staff are qualified. Staff work well as a team and develop good relationships with the children. The nursery environment is warm, welcoming and well planned out. There is a good range of toys and equipment available throughout the nursery.”

Centre manager Moyna Kemp, who has worked at the pre-school centre for ten years said she and the rest of the staff were delighted with the result of the inspection.

“This is our third successive excellent report. We are really pleased to have our service recognised by Ofsted. The staff are delighted, they work very hard to provide an excellent standard of care.”

The report also acknowledged excellent teaching standards, good behaviour management, stimulating activities and good understanding of health and safety.

The on-campus centre, established in 1964 provides day care for children of staff, students and family from the local and wider community aged up to seven years. The purpose-built one-storey building has two creches, two nursery rooms and two pre-school rooms and was recently extended to create two new rooms - one for baby’s under one year and a second room for children aged between three and five years.
