Lancaster University is ranked 2nd in the North West in the Sunday Times League tables published on October 2nd and in the top ten for both research and student satisfaction. Overall, the University is ranked 28th out of 119 institutions.

For the first time this year, teachers and students have been invited to rate the universities and data from the National Student Survey has also been included. Lancaster is rated 10th for the most satisfied students. More than 70 % of Lancaster students responded to the survey which was 10% above the national average. The students were positive about the quality of teaching, learning resources, feedback, academic support and course organisation that they have received.

The Sunday Times says “ Student satisfaction is the tenth highest nationally, a reflection not just of the quality of education offered here but also that Lancaster meets high expectations.

Lancaster University’s drop out rate is 5% which is well below the national average. This could perhaps be explained by the excellent teaching , friendly campus and network of colleges and other support systems in place.

The Sunday Times also ranked the quality of research at Lancaster 9th in the country. Research of international standard at Lancaster not only helps find answers to many important questions about the environment and technology for example, but feeds back into teaching. Undergraduates and postgraduates are taught by people who are leaders in their field.

According to the tables, Lancaster has two gold standard centres of excellence - the Management School and Sociology.

The Sunday Times also says that Lancaster has excellent campus facilities in the Peter Scott Gallery, Nuffield Theatre and the Lancaster international concert series which are of significant regional benefit and complement strong teaching in art, theatre, music and English.
