Sir Chris Bonington to give guest lecture

Sir Chris Bonington will deliver a guest lecture at the Institute of Environmental and Natural Sciences on November 23 to mark the University’s 40th anniversary.

His lecture, entitled ‘Boundless Horizons’, will be open to all staff and post-graduate students but numbers are limited to 175 and tickets will be issued on a first come first serve basis.

Sir Chris becomes Lancaster University’s new Chancellor in January 2005 following the retirement of HRH Princess Alexandra who has been Chancellor of Lancaster for 40 years. He will be installed on March 9, 2005.

Chris Bonington, who was knighted in 1996, is Britain’s best-known mountaineer. He has led and been on several Himalayan expeditions including four to Everest which he climbed in 1985 at the age of 50. He is also the author of many books and has presented and appeared in numerous television programmes.

Lancaster University awarded him an honorary degree in 1983 (DSc Hons).

His guest lecture for the IENS will take place at 6.15pm on November 23 in the Biology Lecture Theatre.
