Grizedale College Celebrates 25 years

03/16/2001 15:42:15

Over 1000 students and graduates celebrated the 25th anniversary of Grizedale College. The infamous Friday night disco swung back to the seventies with Starsky & Hutch look-a-likes, and dancing underneath glitter balls. The student DJs counted down to the arrival of the college's official opening day - 10 March.

Founding Principal, Reverend Canon Paul Warren, 'the Ghost of Grizedale's Past' joined Jim Wood and other college personalities at the Carlton Nightclub, Morecambe for a Saturday Night dinner and dance. 'Getting Grizedale started was one of the most marvellous things I've done,' he beamed. 'There were some good officers and JCR officers and it got off to a good start.

'The planning of Grizedale started 30 years ago and has since grown to twice the original size. In September 1975, the first intake of students was admitted but the college still looked like a building site. Grizedale has over 5000 graduate members and 1400 students.'

The weekend of events including Sunday bar sports brought alumni together to celebrate the long-established Grizedale community. Graduate, Thomas Elcock (Religious Studies, 2000) and student Tim Stansfield, outshone the Michael Jackson tribute act at the dinner and dance with their glittering Grizedale ditties: 'Take a walk down Lancaster spine, We'll go into Grizedale to have a good time, Vince the porter's gonna make you smile. He'll make you feel happy that's the Grizedale style."

Mark Bacon, Grizedale Principal concluded: 'All in all, Grizedale students past and present had a fantastic weekend and letters of thanks are flowing in from places near and far.'
