03/16/2001 16:19:42

The Department of Continuing Education has published a new, bumper edition guide to adult education courses.

There are over 100 short courses featured, which take place at the University and in towns and villages across Lancashire and South Cumbria.

There is a huge variety including astronomy, creative arts, geography, history, information technology, languages, photography and psychology. Everyone is welcome and no previous qualifications are needed. Courses are very affordable, with prices starting at just £20 for Easter courses and even less for those in receipt of benefit.

This summer's highlights include Outings with a Geologist in the Lake District and a selection of creative writing courses at Lancaster University. There is Intensive Italian for Beginners - ideal if you are planning an Italian holiday, or simply want to impress your friends at your local Pizzeria! One of our favourites is Songs from the Musicals, it is informative and great fun, with a chance to learn some of the songs for yourself.

New courses include Herbal Medicine: Nature's Path to healing, taught by an experienced medical herbalist, Genetic Challenges in the 21st Century, which looks at how genes work and the moral and ethical issues involved in genetic engineering and The River Kent Estuary and its Changing Coastline.

The new Course Guides are available at local libraries throughout the area and can be obtained from the Department of Continuing Education, Lancaster University, Lonsdale College, Bailrigg, Lancaster, LA1 4YN, Tel 01524 592624/592621, fax 01524 592448, e-mail conted@lancaster.ac.uk.
