This is a joined seminar with colleagues from CELT, Library and RES. Topics we will focus on the session include: Intellectual Property Rights, Copyright & Creative Commons, Accessibility Issues, Password Protection, Privacy issues, Permissions, Data Privacy, Network security, File sharing, Anti-virus

MyPlace and MyPGR

9 April, 14:00-16:00, ISS Training Suite 1 (Library)

MyPlace and MyPGR are two newly launched tools for personal reflection online, social networking and recording of research progress. The first hour we will demonstrate the two tools and have a short hands-on activity. After this, we will discuss ways of engaging with the tools, personal experiences and suggestions

Our aim is to: Explore MyPlace and MyPGR; Discuss possibilities for departmental engagement and student participation.

Designing Online Learning Activities

10 April, 10:00-13:00, ISS Training Suite 1 (Library)

We are going to situate learning technologies within instructional and course design. We will evaluate different methods and explore assessment rubrics for online activities.

Required: Previous experience of creating online material in LUVLE or participation in the Introduction to LUVLE workshop

Our aim is to: Engage in a variety of ‘good’ and ‘bad’ examples online, make links with different models; Consider steps for designing and redesigning a course with learning technologies in mind; Discuss how different learning theories affect activity design.

Exploring E-moderating Techniques

11h April, 14:00-16:00, ISS Training Suite 1 (Library)

Participants will learn e-moderating techniques which will enable them to lead and facilitate online discussions as part of online activities. We will explore an online discussion forum as students embedding Gilly Salmon’s 5-stage model and discussing its effectiveness and adaptability to both blended and distance learning settings. Furthermore, each participant will be provided a customised scenario which they need to manage as e-moderators and the other participants will evaluate.

Required: Previous experience with a threaded discussion tool or attendance in the Introduction to LUVLE workshop

Our aim is to: Embed Gilly Salmon’s 5-stage e-moderating model; Discuss personal previous experience and scenarios.

Computer Based Assessment

This workshop offers a chance to see how computer based assessment can be used to enhance teaching and see how it is currently being used across campus.

Our aim is to: Demonstrate QuestionMark Perception; Discuss possible ways of using the tool in your teaching.

Video, Webcasts and Rich media Presentations

We will demonstrate recording techniques, ways of creating webcasts and rich media presentations, refer to what is available in Lancaster University as far as services is concerned and we will discuss the use of multimedia in blended and distance learning settings.

Our aim is to: Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of using different media and methods; Explore ways of embedding these technologies in a blended learning setting; Address accessibility and reusability issues.

Electronic Coursework Submission and Plagiarism Detection Service

Would you like more about how your students can submit their essays electronically in LUVLE and how you can use the National Electronic Plagiarism Detection Service successfully? Come along to this workshop, as we will show all required steps and discuss possible ways of using the tool in your teaching.

Our aim is to: Help you decide how to set up and organise electronic submission and plagiarism detection on a departmental or course level.

Interactive, Reusable and Web2.0 Resources

How easy is to create my own interactive map, online quiz, online animation?

We will demonstrate freeware that you can use in order to create simple and effective online interactive resources. We will also focus on how to reuse and embed available online resources.

Our aim is to: Explore the techical skills required for creating an online interactive resource; dentify national and international resource databases and free web 2.0 applications.

CeMoRe Research Day (IAS)

23 May


The purpose of this day is to encourage short presentations
(10-15 minutes) from staff and research students at Lancaster, to
facilitate the exchange of ideas and encourage new contacts and
collaborations. Papers can be on any theme related to mobilities
(broadly defined) and can be used to float new ideas, present
research in progress or report on results. For more information

In previous years we have had excellent papers from research
students and staff in all Faculties of the University with very
productive discussion

If you would like to offer a paper then please contact Colin Pooley
(Geography, Lancaster Environment Centre;

with a title and brief (two sentence) abstract. Offers of papers
should be submitted by Monday 25th February at the latest.

Please circulate this call for papers widely in your department – we
are keen to encourage papers from researchers who have not
previously participated in CeMoRe events
