Having a Domestic is a mini-season of theatre which looks at our relationship with the domestic - when a performance knocks on your door, asks for a cup of sugar and then makes itself at home. Between 26th February and 9th March The Nuffield Theatre, Lancaster University has invited the amazing ‘Adrienne’ to appear in a launderette near you with Adrienne’s Dirty Laundry Experience and Curious (with Leslie Hill, Helen Paris and Lois Weaver) provide three thoughtful and entertaining theatre pieces for audiences both at the Nuffield and in the setting of an ‘ordinary’ home.

In Adrienne’s Dirty Laundry Experience on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 February, Adrienne (aka Adrian Howells) shares all her delightfully gossipy secrets with you as she does your washing. Set in a genuine launderette the exact location for this deliciously intimate theatre will be revealed when you turn up at The Nuffield Theatre at a pre-arranged time (clue: it isn’t far).

Two fantastic Nuffield Theatre based shows follow on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 March taking the meaning of ‘domestic’ to a whole new level in a double bill from Curious. Smoking Gun looks at the notions of ‘us’ and ‘them’ and wonders where we come from, where we are going and why we can’t seem to stop killing each other. Family Hold Back is set at a family dinner table where the codes of Englishness are exposed as weapons of mass destruction in a bleakly funny show.

Finally, an amazing, aromatic and darkly comic journey takes place in a house somewhere in Lancaster. On Tuesday 8 and Wednesday 9 March, four theatre-goers at a time will be led from living room to kitchen to bedroom and in each setting a new story is revealed. On The Scent from Curious explores the elusive connection between smell and memory. The address (and map) showing you how to get to this performance will be given to you when you book.
