InfoLab21 strengthens links with top Malaysian University

Lancaster University’s InfoLab21 is developing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with one of the most significant Universities in Malaysia, the University of Malaysia, Sabah (UMS).

Professor Garik Markarian and Professor Bahram Honary from InfoLab21’s Department of Communication Systems, were warmly received by the Director and members of the University’s Centre of Materials & Minerals (CMM), School of Engineering and Information Technology when they visited its Advanced Telecommunication and Network Research Lab (ATNR) this summer.

The UMS was established on November 24, 1994 and it is now home to 13 schools and nine research institutes.

The aim of the trip was to review research parallels, strengthen the relationship between InfoLab21 and the UMSand foster research and postgraduate study collaborations.

InfoLab21 and the Advanced Telecommunication and Network Research Group share a research focus on Information and Communication Systems and in particular, expertise in telemedicine and wireless sensor networks (WSN).

Professor Garik Markarian, Head of the Department of Communication Systems, said: “The UMS were keen to hear about the existing developments at InfoLab21 and we look forward to working together on new projects.”

Professor David Hutchison, Director of InfoLab21, added: “Internationalisation is a top priority for Lancaster University and this connection with the University of Malaysia, Sabah will be a valuable addition to the work of InfoLab21.”
