02/09/2007 13:18:56

The first phase of work to modernise teaching space and staff offices in the northern part of campus has resulted in newly refurbished offices and departmental space for Law, Religious Studies, DELC and Innovation and Enterprise who are located on B and C floors of Bowland North.

The corridors now have a modern, airy feel with sofas where people can look onto a newly landscape courtyard with grass and shrubs. The whole building will have wireless connectivity as the phases are completed.

13 centrally bookable seminar rooms on A floor have now been opened. These have been updated with modern furniture and décor and equipped with new audio visual equipment. Four of the rooms have interactive whiteboards.

In addition, there are two centrally bookable computer labs on A floor. Both of the labs have audio visual equipment and interactive whiteboards.

Access is by the new widened entrance from the covered spine walkway to the staircases or by a newly installed lift.

Phase 2 of the project is underway, and will modernise space for Applied Social Science, Sociology and Women's Studies on A floor of Bowland North. There will be a further 14 seminar rooms which will be ready for October 2007.

This totals 27 seminar rooms and 2 computer labs on the ground floor when the whole building is complete.
