04/06/2001 10:00:40

Lancaster University will be teaching north west medical students for the first time in a collaboration with Liverpool University and Morecambe Bay Hospital Trust.

The students will be studying medicine at Liverpool University and will come to Lancaster to study on special intensive subject modules organised through a number of university departments including the Institute for Health Research, Medical Statistics Unit, Management School, Applied Social Science and Biological Sciences.

The medical students will come to the Bay area for clinical or GP placements during their 4th and 5th years.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Nick Abercrombie said: ? This new initiative builds on Lancaster?s existing health related research and teaching and it is a major advance to be associated with the University of Liverpool?s Medical School.

?By entering into this collaboration with the University of Liverpool and Morecambe Bay Hospital Trust, Lancaster is contributing to medical education in the region.?
