Lancaster University Geography department has made a series of new appointments due to be taken up in this year.

Dr Gordon Walker is moving from his Directorship of the Institute for Environment and Sustainability Research, Staffordshire University, to a Chair in Environmental Justice at the Geography Department, Lancaster University. He is due to take up his new post by the summer term.

James Faulconbridge from Loughborough University, Peter Hopkins from Edinburgh University and Elizabeth Olson from the University of Colorado will also take up posts in the department over the coming academic year.

Meanwhile the department has also made two new Honorary Chair appointments. These are Professor Ray Bradley, Director, Climate Change Research Centre, Amherst, Massachusetts and Professor Rob Wilby, Environment Agency.

Professor Barbara Maher, head of the Geography department, said the new appointments would make a significant contribution to international-quality research and teaching in the department.

“This is a great opportunity for the Geography department to build its international research profile and capacity, and build further interdisciplinary bridges both within the Lancaster Environment Centre and with other Departments and Schools, especially Sociology and the Management School.”
