New Year Honours

Three people closely associated with Lancaster University were rewarded in the New Year Honours.

Mrs Margaret Gardner, administrative assistant, received the MBE for services to higher education. For many years she has been personal assistant to the Vice Chancellor.

Richard McCormac, who designed the Ruskin Library, was made a knight for services to architecture. The library received the Independent on Sunday Building of the Year Award in 1996.

Patrick Moore, the astronomer who has presented the BBC TV series, The Sky at Night, for the past 43 years, also received a Knighthood for services to the popularisation of science and to broadcasting. Lancaster was the first University to award him an honorary degree back in 1974.
