Chinese Artist Launches Business

Lancashire residents have been getting a taste for traditional Chinese art, thanks to a new business venture by a Lancaster University graduate.

Olive Su, who has a Masters in Human Computer Interaction, has launched her own business sharing her knowledge of Chinese Art through artist workshops and demonstrations across the country.

The daughter of a famous Chinese artist, Olive is a talented young artist of her own right. She has exhibited work in the UK and China, her work has been collected by many organisations. On Saturday, November 28, she was at the Gregson Centre sharing her skills with local residents.

Olive said: “I first started learning traditional Chinese painting from my father Zongsheng Su when I was only three years old. I have many good childhood memories of learning painting and drawing from him and I wanted to share those experiences.

“I am passionate about sharing my knowledge of Chinese culture through art and I particularly enjoy teaching traditional freehand style drawing because it allows the artists to express their own experiences and feelings.”

Lancaster University student union enterprise unit Create has helped Olive to get her fledgling business off the ground.

Create Manager Joseph Buglass said: “Olive’s work is amazing. It is a real privilege to see her painting and sharing her stories about Chinese culture. She’s a lovely person who is really passionate about her art and about teaching it. Its rare to find someone of Olives calibre and would recommend her classes to anyone interested in painting.“

Olive Su has a Masters in Human Computer Interaction from the Psychology and Computing Department. She has been a visiting Art lecturer at Manchester Metropolitan University from 2008.
