Local Families Enjoy Open Day on Campus

Saturday 21st May saw families from across the area enjoying a special open day at the Lancaster University campus. The day marked the celebration of 25 years of lifelong learning provision by the University’s flagship Continuing Education department.

Activities taking place during the day included a lively drumming workshop, learning Chinese in half an hour, workshops on geology and archaeology, and lectures on Lancaster through the ages and famous local artists. Participants could have a go at painting with acrylics, or get a taste of family history, while children had great fun making sun catchers and aeroplanes, and having their faces painted. There was also a display of some superb student work from courses such as painting, photography and creative writing.

Marketing Manager, Lucy Lloyd, commented, “We always enjoy welcoming families onto campus and there was a lovely atmosphere on the day, with people of all ages trying out new activities. This department’s strength is in providing learning opportunities for people throughout their life, whatever their background. I am very pleased that so many people came along and celebrated our 25th anniversary with us.”

The Department of Continuing Education is offering a wide range of courses this summer, including an intensive language summer school, and holiday courses and activities for adults and children. There is also an opportunity for older adults to find out what Lancaster University can offer them, in the University of Later Life (11 – 15 July).
