NUS Shut Down

02/27/2001 16:14:33

The National Union of Students are organising a 'shut down' on Thursday 1st March. This one day student strike is to highlight the continued issue of student debt as a result of the introduction of fees and abolition of maintenance grants.

Students are hoping that the day, called 'Walk out for those priced out of education' would get support from university staff. Student organiser Sakina Karimjee said: 'It would be of great benefit if lecturers would reschedule or cancel lectures and seminars and inform their students that they support them and won't penalise them for participating in the strike.'

Students will be in the square all day and hope to have a rally and protest at lunchtime.
