Lancaster Departments Awarded 6* Research Ratings

Three Lancaster University Units of Assessment (the Management School, Sociology and Statistics) have been awarded 6* research status, the highest rating available, by the Higher Education Funding Council for England, according to the Times Higher Education Supplement of August 15th.

The Sociology return included the Institute for Cultural Research, the Institute for Women's Studies and part of the Institute of Environment, Philosophy and Public Policy; Statistics included the Centre for Applied Statistics; and the Management School return involved six research-oriented departments. Thus, approximately one-third of the university's departments contributed towards 6* ratings, a remarkable indication of the depth and breadth of our research strength.
