Lancaster University has announced plans to set a headline tuition fee of £9,000 a year for Home/EU undergraduates starting programmes from the autumn of 2012. The fee proposal was approved by the University’s Council (its governing body) at a meeting on 25 March 2011.

As part of these new arrangements, Lancaster will build on its track record of success in attracting bright students from a variety of different backgrounds.

Lancaster University Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Wellings said: “The fee level approved by Council today reflects Lancaster’s teaching and research standing and will allow the University to build on the high level of education and the collegiate University experience that we currently offer our students.

“We want to ensure that the student experience is outstanding and that academic resources are directed towards making sure that our students leave with qualifications suited to a globally competitive environment.

“We intend to offer a generous and flexible package of financial support to attract and retain the most able students no matter what their circumstances.”

1. Lancaster University is in the 1994 group and is currently rated in the top ten in the Times, Guardian and Independent newspaper league tables and overall, 92% of research at Lancaster is recognised as being of an international standard.

2. Lancaster has invested over £300m in exciting new projects to improve the student experience, boost research and maintain excellent teaching. The results of the national Student Survey 2010 show that students rate their experience at Lancaster very highly.

3. 92% of Lancaster’s students come from state schools and colleges.

4. Lancaster has relatively low drop out rates and does well for retention of students against national benchmarks. The supportive college system, emphasis on pastoral care and friendly campus contributes to this success.

The proposed UK/EU tuition fees will not apply to international student fees.
