New accommodation offers students 'home from home'

Students at Lancaster University have a home from home now that the The University Partnerships Programme (UPP), the country’s leading university partner in student accommodation, and Lancaster University have opened brand new halls of residence for the start of the new academic year.

This £33 million project is the latest phase of Lancaster University’s residences programme - the largest university new accommodation project in the country – which has now delivered a total of 3,385 new student rooms. A further phase to provide 799 new rooms and 176 refurbished rooms is currently under discussion.

The residences programme provides high quality student accommodation on campus including en-suite study rooms, studio apartments and shared social spaces in landscaped grounds.

This third phase of the programme saw 1,047 new student rooms available for Furness, County and Fylde Colleges from the end of September. The two earlier phases of the residences programme, completed in 2003 and 2004, have provided 2,338 new rooms shared between Cartmel, Lonsdale and Graduate Colleges.

The modern buildings provide accommodation in the form of eight-person cluster flats, with shared kitchen and dining areas, and form a back drop to a newly developed, large landscaped area in the centre of the university campus.

All en-suite rooms are finished to a high-specification, with internet, telephone and television connections, and are available at an all-inclusive price, which covers contents insurance and utility bills.

Chief Executive of UPP Clive Crawford said: “Having worked in partnership with Lancaster University since 2003, we are delighted to announce the completion of Phase III. The new accommodation really does provide a home-from-home environment for students and we are sure the new residents will be very happy here.”
