Student Radio Branches Out

Campus student radio Bailrigg FM has received an extended license to broadcast to the Lancaster and Morecambe area for five days.

Usually 87.7 Bailrigg FM only reaches its listeners on campus, although it can be listened to live online anytime via its award winning website at www.bailriggfm.co.uk.

But this year Bailrigg’s licence has been temporarily extended to mark both Lancaster University’s 40th Anniversary Year and ‘Roses’ weekend - the legendary annual sports tournament between the universities of York and Lancaster dubbed The Battle of the Roses.

The radio station is now poised to roll out into the community from April 29 to May 3. Bailrigg FM has prepared a unique program of diverse shows with something for everyone- music, interviews, competitions and live coverage of The Battle of the Roses. Spectators who come down to the sports field they may even have the chance of getting on air.

Alongside the Battle of the Roses Bailrigg FM has organised a Battle of the Bands between Lancaster and York. This will take place late on Saturday afternoon.

Every sports update will be aired exclusively on 87.7 Bailrigg FM. The competition is always fierce and Lancaster teams need as much support as possible to create a great winning atmosphere. The tournament starts on Friday afternoon and will culminate with the men’s rugby on Saturday and tense women’s and men’s football on Sunday.

Meanwhile links with the local community and the university are growing and the Fun Run organised by the Volunteering Unit expects 400 to 600 runners to take part over the 2.5 mile course to raise money for local charities.
