Brian Heron receives honorary degree

Doctor of Laws (honoris causa) Brian Heron, the University's Pro-Chancellor until 2003, received an honorary degree from Lancaster during the graduation celebrations in July.

After a long career with Turner and Newall, which he completed as Chief Executive of TBA Products, a firm producing high performance textiles, Brian Heron retired to become involved in public service. He was founding chair of both the Rochdale Training and Enterprise Council and the Rochdale NHS Trust, assuming national responsibilities in the health service. He was Pro-Chancellor of the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology from 1990 to 1996. He then became Pro-Chancellor of the University of Lancaster, serving as Chair of its Council from 1997 to 2003, providing experienced judgement to guide the University’s affairs when there were many exciting changes in its life.
