Lancaster International Concert Series - Countdown to Christmas
With a new programme for 2004, Alasdair Malloy returns to Lancaster International Concert Series with the 60-strong North West Pops Orchestra and Countdown to Christmas conducted by Robin McEwan. The Sunday afternoon concert on 19 December at 2.30pm in the Great Hall, is a special celebration of festive music and other favourites (including a new arrangement of River Dance), chosen to entertain and enthral. Alasdair Malloy is famous for introducing children to the wonderful sounds of a live orchestra wrapped up with enough fun and games to keep the entire audience entertained.
Alasdair Malloy - A highly-skilled musician and an irrepressible entertainer, percussion soloist Alasdair Malloy's brand of musical magic and humour has brought a touch of the unexpected to concerts and broadcasts. Alasdair's main activity resides in devising special programmes for children and families, which have made him extremely popular with young and new audiences.
He has received invitations from the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the Hallé Orchestra, Children's Classic Concerts, Northern Sinfonia and the RTE Orchestra in Dublin. Alasdair has also performed with the BBC Philharmonic for the Blue Peter children's PROMS, at the Royal Albert Hall under the baton of Yan-Pascal Tortelier, and for Raymond Gubbay in different successive series of Christmas concerts at both the Royal Festival Hall and the Royal Albert Hall.
Alasdair is principal percussionist of the BBC Concert Orchestra with whom he frequently appears as a soloist and premiered his own arrangement of Riverdance.
