WinterFest2009

It might be cold outside but there will be festive cheer in abundance next week at Lancaster University’s WinterFest2009.

The event, which is open to the public, will be held in Alexandra Square, Lancaster University from Wednesday 2nd December to Friday 4th December.

A synthetic ice rink will be the centre piece of the festival offering skating 12 noon until 6pm on Wednesday and Thursday and from 12 noon until 8pm on Friday. Skating is £3 per person.

Throughout the festival, there will also be stalls selling mulled wine and cocoa to warm you up. On Friday there will also be specialty stalls selling handmade, locally sourced crafts - the perfect Christmas gift for someone special. There will be Christmas Carols, festive cheer and even some snow!

On Friday evening, the festival will culminate in an outdoor showcase in Alexandra Square of the best of Lancaster’s talent, including performances by the Dance and Music Societies, the Brass Band and the Gospel Choir to name a few.

WinterFest 2009 has been organised by the Students’ Union (LUSU) in partnership with Lancaster University Facilities and made possible thanks to the generous support of UPP (University Partnership Programme) who are the company responsible for building student residence on campus and the Alumni Friends Programme.

In addition to the Societies’ involvement a number of students have given their time to coordinate the event and in doing so will gain valuable job winning skills.

So find your festive spirit and come on down, and if you’ve been good this year… Santa and his elves may even drop by!
