Lancaster University has been ranked 124 in the world top 200 universities in the THE World Rankings – the highest level that Lancaster has ever achieved in global tables.

This comes after Lancaster broke into the top ten in all three UK league tables for the first time this year ranking 10th in the Times , 8th in the Independent’s Complete University Guide and 6th in the Guardian League table.

Ann Mroz, editor of the Times Higher Education commented: “We would like to congratulate Lancaster University for its performance in this year’s rigorous rankings. Being ranked 124 in the world top 200 is an impressive achievement. The top 200 universities in the world represent only a tiny fraction of world higher education and any institution that makes it into this table is truly world class.”

Professor Paul Wellings, Vice Chancellor of Lancaster University said :

“This is global recognition of Lancaster’s quality. The rankings recognise quality above scale and Lancaster’sachievements in research, teaching and the student experience demonstrate that institutional excellence is independent of its size.

“As global higher education is becoming more competitive than ever, inclusion in this year’s ranking is an impressive achievement for any institution and Lancaster has combined this with unprecedented success in the UK league tables.”

Earlier this year, Lancaster University was singled out in the Times Higher Education magazine for being the university to make the ‘most significant jump’ to break into the top 10 of all three national newspaper rankings for the first time. In the THE’s ‘table of tables’ Lancaster comes 8th. The table is designed to show how universities are seen by national newspapers and ranks by combining positions in the Times, Guardian and Independent
