Consuls from the Chinese Embassy have visited Lancaster University to find out more about the University’s links with China and meet current Chinese students.

The new Consul General of the Chinese Embassy in Manchester, Mr Ni Jian, with his colleagues, Mrs. Zhang Yihua and Mr. Wu Zhaosheng, met with senior University staff to discuss research and higher education collaborations between Lancaster and institutions in China.

The consulates also gave a seminar presentation and held an informal discussion with current Chinese students at Lancaster.

The university has many long standing links with China including the Lancaster China Management Centre launched in March 2001 to develop new programmes of research and teaching relevant to the needs of Chinese managers.

Last year the University launched a three-week Summer School at Beijing Foreign Studies University - Lancaster’s longest standing partner in China and one of China’s leading universities in teaching foreign languages and cultures.

This year the University also received a £1.33m Research Council UK Science Bridge award to improve UK innovation links with China to help secure the world’s food supply against a background of climate change.

During their visit to the University the consulates met with Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor McKinlay, Dean of the Management School Professor Sue Cox, and the Director of Lancaster China Management Centre , Professor David Brown.
