The 26-strong Psappha ensemble conducted by Nicholas Kok presents an evening of music by one of America’s most renowned composer/performers, Frank Zappa. The concert includes music from many of his albums with much of the music drawn from ‘The Yellow Shark’. Alongside the music by FZ will be works by two of his favourite composers, Edgard Varese and Igor Stravinsky.

Psappha is a new music ensemble, recognised for its performances of music and music-theatre throughout the world. It has performed at leading UK music festivals including Aldeburgh, Cheltenham, Huddersfield, Bath, St. Magnus and Buxton; and abroad in Australia and North America as well as throughout Europe. The ensemble, which has worked with many leading, cutting-edge composers, has given world premières of works by Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, Anthony Gilbert, Gordon McPherson, Steven Mackey, Rebecca Saunders and Karen Tanaka. Psappha was awarded the Manchester Evening News Award for Opera in 2000 and has been nominated for the Royal Philharmonic Society Ensemble Award for the last four years.
