Lancaster International Concert Series

01/07/2005 13:30:08

Promising to be one of the highlights of the season, violinist Janine Jansen and pianist Kathryn Stott will be restarting the Lancaster International Concert Series in 2005 when they perform at Lancaster University in the Great Hall on Wednesday 12th January at 7.30pm. This fascinatingly contrasted duo-recital, begins with a highly original Czech voice, includes a Russian work of great beauty and depth together with an exciting new piece by one of America’s most prominent and popular composers, and finally, ends with the unmistakably English eloquence of Elgar.

Janine Jansen - Violin

Janine Jansen’s London debut in November 2002 accompanied by the Philharmonia Orchestra, attracted immediate worldwide attention. In February 2003 she signed an exclusive recording contract with the Decca Music Group, and her first album received great critical acclaim, including a Five Star review in BBC Music Magazine.

Janine Jansen has quickly gained the reputation of one of the foremost young violinists on the international concert stages. Her concert schedule regularly includes orchestras such as the Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the Hallé and BBC Orchestras.

In September 2003 Janine received the Dutch Music Prize from the Ministry of Culture – the highest distinction an artist can receive in The Netherlands.

The outstanding instrument being used by Janine Jansen is the violin by Antonio Stradivari, Cremona, 1727, ‘Barrere’ on extended loan through intermediation of The Stradivari Society® of Chicago and the Elise Mathilde Fund.

Kathryn Stott - Piano

Lancashire born Kathryn Stott is one of Britain’s most versatile and respected musicians. Engagements as a concerto soloist with orchestras throughout Britain and Europe, the Far East and Australia, are combined with recital and chamber music activities, taking her to major music centres throughout the world.

Her discography is extensive and includes the Grammy award-winning Sony CD, Soul of the Tango – a collaboration with Yo-Yo Ma and members of Piazzolla’s original quintet, and piano duets by Delius with Noriko Ogawa and Brazil featuring, amongst others, the Assad Brothers and Paquito D’Rivera.
