Something a taxi driver in Liverpool said …is a unique sensory experience set to be performed at Lancaster University’s Nuffield Theatre.

Created by Renny O’Shea, Something a taxi driver in Liverpool said… is an eight-and-a-half minute journey in total darkness, full of sound and smell.

During the performance audience members, who enter the installation one at a time, will experience warm sand the smell of violets and the sound of crickets.

This extraordinary performance was first put on at Belfast Festival in October 2002. It was a sell-out success, with brilliant critical response and the British Council invited the company to showcase the work in Edinburgh in summer 2003.

Quarantine has fast emerged as one of the most distinctive creators of new theatre in Britain, combining startling invention with an intimate contact with reality.

Free ‘Sensory Theatre’ workshops For groups of 8 – 12 people.

Linked to the theatre performance are a series of theatre workshops aimed primarily at blind and partially sighted people aged 15 and over. These workshops will take place between January 10th and 17th 2005 at The Nuffield Theatre. Led by Renny O’Shea from Quarantine Theatre Company, each participant will be able to explore ‘Sensory Theatre’, which uses sounds and especially smells to trigger personal memories and create new imaginative pictures. The workshop will encourage partnering either with a sighted or non-sighted friend or with someone new, each sharing with the other their journey of exploration. No experience of theatre performing is needed to enjoy this session which will take place in a relaxed and trusting atmosphere.

Each two hour workshop is free and by arrangement. The Nuffield Theatre can also provide free transport if you need it within the local area.
